A new Netflix original comedy has barreled into town, knocking the truly excellent The Menu off the #1 spot in its top 10 list. That would be Kinda Pregnant starring Amy Schumer, and you may be wondering if it’s actually worth watching.
The answer appears to be no, no it’s very much not.
As we speak, Kinda Pregnant currently has a 17% score on Rotten Tomatoes with only two critics giving it a positive review, the rest being negative. And this is not one of those instances where critics hate something and audiences love it, as sometimes happens with big Netflix originals, as viewers have so far given it a dismal 25% score, way, way below the average for Netflix movies.
The film seems like something that might have been released 15-20 years ago in terms of its concept, which is:
“When Lainy’s plan to settle down and start a family falls apart, she puts on a fake baby bump, tells a lie, and accidentally falls for her dream guy.”
As it stands, this is Amy Schumer’s lowest scored movie she’s ever made, as the rest of her filmography is up and down. She was recently in Unfrosted with Jerry Seinfeld, and that got a 40%. Her comedy specials have done well with critics (100%, 79%), terribly with audiences (16%, 9%). She certainly does have some hits, however, like Trainwreck (86%), and she’s had roles in shows like Only Murder’s in the Building, Bob’s Burgers and BoJack Horseman. But Kinda Pregnant appears to be a pretty big miss. Here’s what critics are saying about it:
The Hollywood Reporter: “Kinda Pregnant prefers to stay on the surface. That shallowness puts more pressure on the comedy, which is challenging because Kinda Pregnant is not exceptionally funny either.”
FandomWire: “This Netflix, Happy Madison, Amy Schumer movie is a jaw-droppingly unfunny, utterly misguided, and downright cringeworthy comedy that is already a contender for one of the worst films of 2025.”
Here’s one of the positive ones for good measure:
Associated Press: “If we bought “Some Like it Hot” and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” I see no reason to quibble with the set-up of “Kinda Pregnant,” a funny and often perceptive satire on motherhood, both real and pretend.”
All this said, any Netflix original movie with any celebrity you might recognize sort of automatically stays as a top film for at least a few days, no matter the reviews. That seems likely to happen with Kinda Pregnant, Netflix may still want to assess what went wrong here.
